When planning a family safari, there are a number of things one needs to consider and questions one should ask. What are the age limits for kids at lodges within certain areas? What lodges offer diverse activities for different family members? What are the travel times between different safari locations? Are there extra costs involved? What destinations are best for family groups?
We tend to find that the best destinations for a family safari include Victoria Falls, the Chobe National Park, and the Okavango Delta. A trip of such as this can easily be done in 8 days.
Venture across a wildlife-rich private concession, where you can wait with baited breath to spot some of Botswana’s rarest species, including the once widespread African Wild Dog.
Visit the local people of the Okavango Delta, learning of the age-old customs, traditions and cultural heritage of the village.
This is arguably the best wildlife destination on earth home to elephants, lions, leopards, hippos, crocodiles, buffalos, giraffe and more. Discover the Okavango Delta by mokoro, a traditional Botswana canoe, guided by the water's gentle flow.
The rolling sand dunes and saltpans of this remote national park is home to a plethora of wildlife. Take a guided safari excursion and catch sight of the region’s famed species, including the bat-eared fox, African wildcat and pangolin.
Get lost in the fresh sparkling waters of the Selinda Spillway, which connects to the Linyanti River and Okavango delta and, in the rainy season, fills with life-giving streams of water.
Adventure across this 130,000 hectare reserve with an off-road game drive. Follow the raw, untamed wildlife of this region and track hunting predators like the leopard, cheetah and hyena.
Sit in wait for an eye-catching glimpse of the lappet-faced vulture, bateleur eagle and African Skimmer in Chobe National Park, a renowned birding paradise with over 450 recorded species.
Sleep in the African bush and gaze up at the tranquil night sky and twinkling stars. Whether lazing in a hammock, raised platform or camp bed, Fly Camping offers the chance to sleep under the stars and get as close to nature as possible.
Embark on a nature walk guided by the San Bushmen of the region. Pass through grassy plains and learn of the traditional San culture, their nomadic way of life and how they hunt, gather and use plants for medicine.
Explore the stretching plains of Nxai Pan National Park, where you can visit the magnificent Baines’ Baobabs. These ancient trees, immortalised by the paintings of Thomas Baines in 1862, still remain today.
Embark on a walking safari, where you can trek alongside the local indigenous inhabitants of the region and learn how to interpret and survive the harsh Kalahari conditions.

Your private guide collects you after breakfast, and you cross the border into Zambia and drive out to the falls. The thundering falls are an unforgettable experience and with your private guide at your side, you’ll be lead right up to the very edge where you can marvel at the brutal power of the falls close up. You may also chose to experience the falls from the Zimbabwean side should you so choose. Following the tour you return to your lodge in Chobe for your last night in Botswana.

We had an absolutely wonderful time in Botswana. Especially in the Okavango Delta. Many thanks to The African Wild and Rory Sheldon who organized our trip!
What can I say?! Everything was amazing- from start to finish. Rory did a fantastic job in tailoring the perfect safari for me and my girlfriends. Everything went so smoothly. We had the best time; saw all the animals we wanted and came home with incredible memories! Could not have asked for better. Thank you for an epic trip!
We had the most amazing time on our safari organized by The African Wild. Rory was attentive to every email and request. And helped us along the way with so many details that we did not even know we needed. The trip was smooth from the pickup in Maun, to the flights, and the beautiful lodges. We could not have had a better experience. Thank you!
